Florida Update!

Hello Everyone!  Sammie and I are still in Florida and having a great visit!  Yesterday, Sammie and I went to Busch Gardens.  Their theme is Africa and since we just studied the African Savannah and Sammie took an African animal class at the zoo, it seemed like the thing to do.  And it was.  Sammie really enjoyed it and we were able to answer a question about giraffes that we learned in our homeschool studies.  I bet you didn't know that Giraffes have 7 vertebrae in their neck just like we do.  Obviously, theirs are much bigger!!  They also have a very nice kids area.  We visited Santa...again.  Only this time we asked a couple of questions that Sammie's been pondering lately:

Is it always snowing at the North Pole?  Santa's  answer:  Yes, always snowing and cold.

How does Santa get from place to place in the off season?  Santa's answer:  Helicopter.

Hmmm...Now we know.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone is having a great day!  My daughter and I are in Florida and having a nice visit with my family.  We've visited Santa at the mall and seen a Holiday Lights parade.  We've been shopping and eaten at some of our favorite places down here.  Here's a picture of Sammie and Santa.

Some samples!

Here's a few things I've stamped lately...

These are 2 inch binder clips that you find in your local office supply store.  Just cover with some designer series paper and embellish.  Very easy!

This is the reflection technique.  It's really surprisingly easy!  The directions can be found here on SplitCoastStampers. 

This card features a snowflake made from the tag punches.  Very creative idea!  I don't know who to give credit to for coming up with this, but good job!!

This card features Stampin' Up!'s build-a-brad.  It's pretty cool.  You just punch something you stamped or designer series paper with a 1/2 inch circle punch, apply it to the brad base, and cover it with the clear bubble dot (for lack of a better name) that already has adhesive on it.  When I wasn't paying attention, my daughter was making them, too!

We're busy around here preparing for our trip to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with my family.  I hope you all are having a good week!

My library class...

...was this past Tuesday night.  I had a good turn out (and apparently a waiting list!) and met some wonderful ladies and reaquainted with a couple of familiar faces from past classes.  We had a lot of fun!  Well, at least I did!!  Here's what we made...

Recalled!

My daughter's beloved Aqua Dots that she got for her birthday have been recalled.  It seems they contain a chemical that when swallowed will morph into the date rape drug and hurt children.  Here's the link to the article:Spin Master Recalls Aqua Dots – Children Became Unconscious After Swallowing Beads

We have also had Barbie's pooper scooper recalled because of a faulty magnet and the Polly Pocket house also...same reason.  Fortunately, we haven't had any toys with the lead paint...at least, not yet. 

So today, my 5 year old is playing and comes over to ask me for a disposable camera sitting by me.  She proceeds to tell me it's been recalled because kids are swallowing the buttons and it has poison paint.  Why does my 5 year old even need to know about this stuff?  Why are we having discussions about why there is poison on her Aqua dots?  She wants to know why someone would hurt children.  And I don't know the answer.  So now what do we do?  We have other toys similar to ones recalled.  Are they dangerous?  Will we find out later after my daughter is affected?   And what do you buy the kids for Christmas?  <big sigh>

Ok, I'm done.  Just felt the need to say it, I guess.  I do have some projects to post as soon as I take pics.  Hopefully, later today or tomorrow.

An extra hour today!

What did you do with yours?  My extra hour came in handy this morning to get Sammie and I ready for our zoo class.  Today we were up at the zoo by 9:30am for their "No Tricks, All Treats" class.  We made pumpkin treats for the gorillas!  We carved pumpkins, then filled them with nutritional pellets (whatever that is) and bark (yes, like you put around your landscape).  Then we took the pumpkins to Tropic World and the zookeepers put them in the Gorilla habitat and them them out to enjoy the treats.  It was so much fun to watch!  Unfortunately, our pumpkin took a tumble early and smushed on the ground.  Then it got swept away by the waterfall.  But we did see a baboon from the habitat next door enjoying pumpkin seeds he fished out of the water!  Here's a couple of pics..

I did a little stamping this past week...

 

This is an envelope sealed shut.  It's actually a shimmer white envelope.  Then I used the tag punch to make the cutouts.  This is perfect for a little hot chocolate packet and candy candy cane!  I just didn't have any on hand, so I hit the Halloween stash. 

This card I CASED from Andrea Walford's blog.  She does excellent work!  I love this card!
